Burrito Shak has built its reputation one fresh burrito at a time along the Carolina coast. Now, the brand is making its boldest move yet. The Basso family is bringing the first Florida location to Cape Coral. They are targeting an opening on or around August 1. It is a milestone worth celebrating. It is also a sign of something bigger: a burrito franchise with real momentum and a clear vision.
Meet the Basso Family
Behind every great Burrito Shak is a team of people who believe in fresh food and local community. The Cape Coral location is no different.
Antoinette, Phil, and Vito Basso are the franchisees bringing the brand to Southwest Florida. As veterans, this family is deeply committed to the idea of community first. One of their plans is to create a dedicated in-store area where first responders can leave patches and memorabilia. It is a simple gesture that says a lot about who they are.
“Burrito Shak is fresh coastal Mexican food all prepared fresh daily,” Antoinette Basso said. “There are no leftovers.”
That commitment to freshness is not just a tagline. It is the foundation of the Burrito Shak model. Every item is made to order, prepared right in front of the guest along a service line. No heat lamps. No pre-portioned bags. No shortcuts. Just real food, made fresh, every time.
Victoria Pereira, daughter of the Basso group, will also play an active role in the operation. She will support hiring, community outreach, and social media. Her involvement will help the location build strong local roots from day one.
What Can You Expect at 1200 Solaris Drive?
The Cape Coral Burrito Shak will be located at 1200 Solaris Dr., Suite 305. The space runs approximately 1,800 square feet with seating for about 45 guests. The design reflects both the brand and the Florida lifestyle. Blue and white tones, surfboard decor, and a relaxed layout create a casual, welcoming atmosphere.
Guests can dine in, carry out, or use the pickup window for call-ahead orders. Hours will be Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fresh Food Built Around You
The menu follows the same build-your-own format that Burrito Shak fans already know. Guests move through the line choosing from burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. Protein options include chicken, steak, ground beef, and shrimp.
That last item deserves a closer look. The Basso family plans to source shrimp locally whenever it is available.
“We do fresh shrimp, which we’re going to actually be getting from local fishermen here,” Phil Basso said.
Local sourcing is a big deal. The taste is different when food is made with care, and guests can see it, smell it, and taste it the moment they walk in.
Why Cape Coral Makes Sense
Cape Coral is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. It sits in Lee County along the Gulf Coast. The population skews active and family oriented, with a strong outdoor lifestyle and a deep sense of community pride.
The Basso family did not pick this market by chance. They saw an opportunity to bring a fresh, differentiated burrito franchise concept to a city that cares about where it eats. A locally operated, veteran-owned restaurant that sources ingredients from nearby fishermen and honors first responders is exactly the kind of business Cape Coral gets behind.
An Emerging Burrito Franchise on the Move
For anyone researching burrito franchise opportunities, this expansion is worth paying attention to. Burrito Shak has grown steadily and deliberately since its founding on the North Carolina coast. The brand is listed in the SBA Franchise Registry, which means franchisees may have access to SBA-backed financing options. Burrito Shak is also a proud member of the International Franchise Association and VetFran, a program that supports veteran entrepreneurs entering franchising.
Entrepreneur Magazine has recognized Burrito Shak as one of its Top New and Emerging Franchises. That recognition reflects strong growth, solid support systems, and long-term potential.
The concept works because it is simple and built on something real: food that people actually want to eat. The fast-casual Mexican segment remains one of the strongest in the restaurant industry. Consumers want flexibility, fresh ingredients, and good value. The build-your-own format delivers all three.
The Cape Coral location is proof that the Burrito Shak model travels well. The right franchisees can bring the concept to life in new markets with the same energy and values that made it successful back home.
Want to Be Part of What Comes Next?
The Basso family evaluated their options and chose Burrito Shak because the concept, the support, and the opportunity made sense. A lot of people in their position are making the same call right now.
